Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.
Iām amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.
The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.
Black Rustic, (Aporophyla nigra).
The moth is from the family of Noctuidae: Subfamily Xyleninae.
A rather long-winged macro species,
With a wingspan of 40 to 46 mm.
The moth has little variation from blackish-brown ground colour and whitish stigmata.
The males have white hindwings, the females duskier.
The moth's habitat is mainly open heathland, moorland, grassland, road-side verges, woodland rides.
Overwinters as a small larva.
The larva appears from October to May.
Feeds at night and hides low down to the ground by the day.
It pupates underground.
The species is classified as a common species of the UK.
