Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Feathered Slender or Privet Stilt - Caloptilia cuculipennella

Feathered Slender or Privet Stilt - Caloptilia cuculipennella A micro moth species from the family of Gracillariidae , sub family Gracillariinae. The moth has a wingspan of Wingspan 11 to 12 mm. The posterior tibiae are smooth above. Forewings are whitish, with numerous ochreous or brown strigulae finely irrorated with black; an oblique fascia near the base hardly reaching the costa, a second before middle reaching the dorsum, a third beyond the middle interrupted in the disc, and a costal spot at three-quarters ochreous or brownish, finely spotted with black Hindwings are dark grey. Its favoured habitats are sea cliffs and rough ground near the coast and woodland inland. The moths can be found on the wing from July to September. The species' life history is that the larvae initially create a mine on either Privet or Ash, then form two successive cones by rolling a leaf. UK Status for this species is that, although it has a wide distribution over much of the British Isles, this is a scarce species and not often encountered. This species was classified as Nationally Scarce A.
