Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Pea Moth - Cydia nigricana.

Pea Moth - Cydia nigricana. A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae, subfamily Olethreutinae. The moth has a wingspan of 12 to 16 mm The adults are rather nondescript in appearance. The mainly brown wings have two or three short black dashes and other russet and white marks below. Its preferred Habitats are around pea family plants, including Common Vetch, where it is plentiful. This moth is on the wing during May and August and can be found in sunshine and at night. The species’ life history is that the larvae feed internally in the pods, eating away the peas. Quite often a pest of cultivated and garden peas and various related Leguminosae, Its distribution ranges over much of mainland Britain, more plentifully in the south, and locally in Ireland, and it is classified as common in the UK.
