Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.
I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.
The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.
Buff Ermine, Spilosoma lutea.
The moth is from the family of Erebidae, subfamily Arctiinae.
A medium-sized looking macro moth species, with a wingspan of 28 to 40 mm.
The moth as one generation and its flight season are from May to July.
It overwinters as a pupa in a cocoon formed among plant litter.
The larva appears from July to mid-October.
The moth's habitat is mainly— parks, woodland, hedgerows and gardens and sand-dunes.
The moth is a common resident of the UK.
